چکیده

Cerebral Spinal Fluid Lactic Acid Following Circulatory Arrest • CSF lactic acid rises quickly and then gradually declines toward normal after severe cerebral ischemia in the dog. In animals in whom recovery can be postulated, the increase in lactic acid would appear to be transitory, and more severe insults produce higher levels. The increase in blood levels of lactic acid occurs more rapidly than that in the CSF, and the blood level returns to normal sooner than the CSF. ADDITIONAL

Rate of change in myocardial glycogen and lactic acid following arrest of coronary circulation.

Comparative studies of glycogen content, rate of glycolysis, and lactic acid accumulation were carried out over a 2 hour period in potassium-arrested hearts excised from dogs with and without preliminary infusion of glucose and insulin. Glycogen consumption occurred at 60 to 100 per cent of the expected rate for 60 min., but was subsequently much less in both groups of animals. Lactic acid accu...

Antegrade selective cerebral perfusion combined with deep hypothermic circulatory arrest on cerebral circulation: comparison between pulsatile and nonpulsatile blood flows.

PURPOSE In aortic arch surgeries, antegrade selective cerebral perfusion (SCP) combined with deep hypothermic circulatory arrest (DHCA) has been recently widely used in institutions as one of the most reliable methods for cerebral protection. However, some studies reported a 3.7-9.3% incidence of postoperative cerebral complications. To perform antegrade SCP more safely, we sought to examine th...

Cortical brain microdialysis and temperature monitoring during hypothermic circulatory arrest in humans.

OBJECTIVES Critical vascular surgery of the brain or the heart occasionally requires total cessation of the circulatory system. Profound hypothermia is used to protect the brain from ischaemic injury. This study explores the use of microdialysis to measure metabolic indices of ischaemia: glutamate, lactate, and pH, and cerebral temperature during profound hypothermia and circulatory arrest. M...

Cerebral ATP and lactate levels in the squirrel monkey following occlusion of the middle cerebral artery.

Cerebral ATP and Lactate Levels in the Squirrel Monkey Following Occlusion of the Middle Cerebral Artery • Previous studies have shown that occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) of the squirrel monkey results in a consistent large infarct; that in the initial two hours after occlusion of the MCA, blood flow in the central area of ischemia continues at a reduced rate (20% to 50% of norma...

Cerebral activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases after circulatory arrest and low flow cardiopulmonary bypass.

OBJECTIVES Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) are important intermediates in the signal transduction pathways involved in neuronal dysfunction following cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. One subfamily, extracellular regulated kinase 1/2, has been heavily implicated in the pathogenesis of post-ischemic neuronal damage. However, the contribution of extracellular regulated kinase 1/2 to ...
